Dig the Dirt with the Master Composter Volunteers

The Changeworks Master Composter project has lots of newly trained and established volunteers eager to share their knowledge of home composting with their neighbours and with local community groups.
So if you are new to composting, or maybe you've been at it for a while but don't feel it's been very successful, and think you could benefit from some free, friendly advice then contact us and we will try to help you out. We'd also be delighted to deliver a talk or workshop to any interested groups.
If you are a home composter who is interested in spreading the word then contact us to find out how you can get involved. New recruit, Jocelyn Lockhart says: "I started volunteering with Changeworks last year and I've found it's been a great project to be involved in. I've learnt lots, gained a lot of confidence and met some lovely people. Since my training I've manned stalls, visited people in their garden and had a few composting events of my own. It's been a great opportunity to help reduce the waste going to landfill from Edinburgh."
To book a home visit, talk or for more information on volunteering please contact Kathleen Kirkness, on 0131 538 7941 or email kkirkness@changeworks.org.uk

Haddington Farmers' Market

East Lothian residents know they are lucky to live in an area that not only looks beautiful but also produces delicious food. The Haddington Farmers’ Market, held on the last Saturday of every month from 9am – 1pm (except December when the special Christmas Market date will be advertised), attracts many visitors from outwith the county, as well as local residents, who wish to take home a real taste of the county.
Widely recognised as the ‘friendly’ farmers’ market, the Haddington Farmers’ Market is an excellent, positive experience for all who visit. It is a shoppers’ paradise, with such a wide variety of local produce presented in a most inspiring and innovative way.
Haddington Farmers' Market
Produce from Haddington Farmers’ Market comes from artisan farms that concentrate on quality, tradition and flavour. With over 20 stallholders present, (25 during peak season) it is a great opportunity for producers to meet the customers who are actually going to eat what they produce. You can talk directly to the producer about the provenance of the food and the growing/rearing methods. The feedback is amazing and encourages producers to be evermore innovative with the products they offer.
Established in April 2000, the market organisers pride themselves on the variety of produce available. From farm eggs, the best of cheeses, organic vegetables and tasty tomatoes to honey and ice cream. You can buy crusty bread and then purchase the butter or homemade jams and preserves to spread on it. Or, opt for some fresh trout and smoked salmon. Meat treats include local beef, lamb and pork and more unusual meats such as venison, ostrich and wild boar – why not give them a try. There’s a good selection of home-baking and regional drinks including liqueurs, plus a selection of handmade crafts and herbaceous plants waiting to enhance your home and garden.
Haddington Farmers' Market
It’s all there at Haddington Farmers’ Market just waiting to be discovered by you and there is ample parking behind Court Street, Haddington.
